Lisbon’s Atlantic Pavilion will host the 12th annual MTV Europe Music Awards on Nov. 3, 2005, the broadcaster announced today (Nov. 7). It will mark the first time that MTV’s flagship European music gala has travelled to Portugal.
Today’s announcement is something of an unusual move for MTV; the broadcaster typically announces the host city six months before the event.
“We’ve had Lisbon in our sights as a potential venue for the awards for a long time, and are delighted to make it a reality at last,” MTV Networks Europe president/CEO Brent Hansen says in a statement.
Hansen also paid tribute to the Lisbon mayor Carmona Rodrigues; Portuguese minister of tourism Telmo Correia; Jose Saldanha Bento, CEO of the Portuguese National Tourist Board; and Pedro Pinto, president of the Lisbon Tourist Office, for their help in bringing the event to Portugal. MTV launched a dedicated channel for Portuguese consumers in 2003.
This year’s EMAs were held Nov. 18 in Rome.
