If you think trap is the only intersection of dance and hip-hop, you’ve got a lot of musical exploration ahead of you. We suggest you start with Mr. Probz, the Amsterdam-based producer and singer with roots in both worlds. His latest single “Gone” has the smooth, jazzy groove of ’90s jams, reminiscent of classic vibes from the likes of The Roots or DJ Shadow.
“Gone” is a good time on a lazy summer afternoon that celebrates individuality and success. It also features guest vocals from Anderson .Paak,, another creative mind who lives in the space between genres, of whom Mr. Probz says it was a real honor to get on his track.
“Do you know that feeling you can get when something special is happening?” he tells Billboard. “I mean, not that you’re thinking about it and react on that thought, but you actually know that there is something really special going on and get that natural tingle? So yeah, that’s the feeling I got when I first heard Anderson on ‘Suede’ [a collaboration with NxWorries]. I think my immediate response to my manager was something like, ‘Wow, we need to contact this guy asap and get him on a track the day before yesterday.’”
The song is paired with a trippy, vibrant video that puts both Mr. Probz and Anderson .Paak in multicolored clouds. “Gone” will have you floating on air, too. Check the official video below.
