It’s one of the undisputed classic heavy rock songs but that hasn’t stopped Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades” being transformed into a stripped-down acoustic blues number for a beer ad.
Premiered in the United Kingdom on Oct. 24, a 30-second TV spot for French beer company Kronenbourg featuring Motorhead singer Lemmy Kilmister and his bandmates playing a half-tempo acoustic version of their signature tune, while sitting in a mock-rustic French bar, has generated over 17,000 views on the official YouTube Kronenbourg channel since making its TV debut.
The acoustic version of “Ace of Spades” was recorded especially for the promo, which forms part of Kronenbourg’s “Slow The Pace” campaign, and is available to download for free from the official Kronenbourg website www.k1664.co.uk. A film documenting the band re-recording the track in the studio can also be viewed online.
This fall, Motorhead will embark on its 35th anniversary tour, commencing Nov. 8 at Aberdeen AECC. The 15-date U.K. tour, which includes a show at London’s 5,000-capacity O2 Academy Brixton, wraps Nov. 28 at the Brighton Centre. European dates follow.
The band’s new studio album “The World is Yours” is released Dec. 13 via the band’s own Motorhead Music imprint and EMI Music Services.
