Morrissey’s singles from 1991-1995 will be compiled into a 10-disc package, “Singles Box – Volume 2,” due for a Sept. 17 U.K. release on EMI. Although the exact tracklist is not yet known, the set is likely to include singles for “Tomorrow,” “My Love Life,” “We Hate it When Our Friends Become Successful,” “You’re the One for Me, Fatty,” “Certain People I Know,” and “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get,” among others.
Last year, EMI released the 10-disc “Singles Box – Volume 1,” which brought together releases beginning with Morrissey’s first post-Smiths singles in 1988 up through the “Pregnant for the Last Time” single, released in July 1991.
With no new Morrissey material in sight (the artist has not released a studio album since 1997’s “Maladjusted”), archival and repackaged releases have reached new levels in recent years. In June, WEA U.K. released “The Very Best of the Smiths,” which was quickly disavowed by ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr in a post on his official Web site.
“The band were not asked for their approval on this record and consequently it is a disgrace,” he wrote. “It has the worst cover I’ve ever seen and has been re-mastered poorly. I believe Morrissey is less than pleased about this album, but I can only speak for myself when I say that it should be ignored by fans.”
Last year, Reprise issued separate video collections from both the Smiths and Morrissey.
