The former Smiths lead singer Morrissey inspires devotion in his fan base, often inviting members of the audience on-stage during a performance for a quick hug.
Unfortunately, things got a little out of hand during last night’s concert at the City National Civic in San Jose, where the 54-year-old singer-songwriter was appearing, according to news reports.

Morrissey was performing “One Day Goodbye will Be Farewell” during the second encore when a group of his followers broke through security to embrace the singer.
At first, Morrissey seemed to be amused by the reaction, even visibly chuckling at the situation, but then “one or two” wild fans charged the singer and knocked him to the ground,abruptly ending the concert.

“No one was trying to hurt him,” 44-year-old Morrissey fan James Fleischman told the local NBC affiliate. “I don’t know, they seemed drunk or out of control. It was no fault of Morrissey. Maybe he needs more security, but that’s part of the Morrissey experience. People have been storming his stage for 30 years.”
According to Morrissey’s Solo Tour website, he is scheduled to perform in Santa Ana tonight at 8 p.m. and in Los Angeles at the Sports Arena on Saturday.
