Monchy & Alexandra lead the nominations for the upcoming Premios Lo Nuestro Awards, which will air live on the Univision network February 23 from the American Airlines Arena in Miami.
The Dominican bachata duo took nods in five tropical music categories, including album of the year (for “Hasta el Fin” on J&N Records) and artist of the year. Artists garnering four nominations each included Puerto Ricna singer Olga Tañón, Colombians Juanes and Shakira, regional Mexican groups Intocable, K-Paz de la Sierra and Conjunto Primavera, pop singers Laura Pausini and Luis Fonsi and reggaetón star Daddy Yankee.
Awards are given out in 32 categories representing five genres of Latin music: Pop, tropical, regional Mexican, rock and urban. An award is also given out for video of the year. Nominees are selected from lists compiled by Radio & Records between Oct. 1, 2004 and Sept. 30, 2005. Winning votes are cast by fans who can vote online at univision.com.
The Premios Lo Nuestro Awards, now in its 18th year, traditionally reap high ratings that have an important sales impact on performing artists.
