Moby doesn’t just talk the meat-free talk. Now, he literally has his plant-based lifestyle tattooed on his head. The longtime animal rights supporter revealed on Tuesday (Sept. 17) that he’s now official “Vegan For Life,” as evidenced by that all-caps message inked on the right side of his neck. “I’ve been a vegan for almost 32 years, so getting this tattoo seemed like a pretty safe bet,” he wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of what he said was his new ink.
“Also, working for animal rights and animal liberation is my life’s work. And to state the obvious, it’s a double entendre…thank you,” he added, shouting out tattoo artist Kat Von D. The hard core life choice got a thumb’s up from animal rights organization PETA, which commented, “We LOVE it! Your dedication to helping animals is far beyond the commitment to this tattoo.” H2O singer Toby Morse also gave his approval, commenting, “@thekatvond @moby Hardest Neck Tat Ever on the Sweetest Human!!”
Others also weighed in, including dead prez’s Stic, who wrote simply, “Healthy Gangsta” and pro surfing vegan Tia Blanco, who opined, “So cool Moby!!!” The producer/EDM star has long made his advocacy for meat-free living as big a part of his message as his music, working with groups such as PETA and Farms Not Factories to find an end to factory farming.
Back in May, Moby said he was going to “go away for a while” following the cancelation of the remaining UK and Irish dates on his Then It Fell Apart memoir book tour after controversy claims in the book about dating actress Natalie Portman.
