Medeski Martin & Wood have re-teamed with guitarist John Scofield for the album “Out Louder,” due Sept. 26 via MMW’s Indirecto Records imprint. MMW previously played on Scofield’s 1998 Verve album “A Go Go,” but “Out Louder” is a more collaborative effort between all four musicians.
“People connect with grooves and funk — they feel it in their gut,” says group member John Medeski. “You don’t have to play a lot of notes to connect with people. The groove and spirit is what connects with people.”
Tracks earmarked for “Out Louder” include “Miles Behind,” “Little Walter Rides Again” and a sidewinding cover of Peter Tosh’s “Legalize It.” The foursome is planning to tour in support of the album but dates have yet to be announced.
In related news, Medeski will stage a solo piano concert Nov. 2 at Merkin Concert Hall in New York. The same evening, noted DJ Kid Koala will unveil a new “jazz and blues influenced project,” according to MMW’s Web site.
