After forming in late 2012, indie-pop collective MisterWives is finally ready to release its debut album, Our Own House, on Feb. 24 through Photo Finish/Republic Records. Before the album’s release, check out the new track “Hurricane,” premiering exclusively at Billboard.com:
MisterWives (a gender-corrected version of the word “sister wives”) came together after singer Mandy Lee decided to forgo a solo career in order to link up with a band and give her soaring compositions some instrumental muscle. “I remember my old manager told me about backing tracks, and I was like, ‘Wait, what?'” Lee told Billboard last year. “For me, that was something I was never going to touch.”
Our Own House follows last year’s Reflections EP, as well as touring stints with Bleachers and Twenty One Pilots. Lee wrote part of MisterWives’ debut album in one of the band members’ treehouse in the Bronx, N.Y., the same one that appears on the full-length’s front cover.
“We hope ‘Hurricane’ is an anthem for those who believe in individuality and don’t give a f–k about what others think,” says Lee of the new track, which follows previously released tracks like “Vagabond,” “Coffins,” and the Our Own House title track.
MisterWives has two months of U.S. tour dates mapped out, beginning on Thursday (Feb. 26) at Union Transfer in Philadelphia. Our Own House can be pre-ordered here, and click here to listen to a special MisterWives performance on Billboard’s Must-Hear Music Podcast.
