North Mississippi Allstars and Umphrey’s McGee scored a leading three nominations each for the fifth Jammy Awards, to be handed out April 26 at the Theater at Madison Square in New York. The Dead’s Phil Lesh will host the ceremony; performers will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
The Allstars are nominated for best live album for “Hill Country Revue Live at Bonnaroo,” while that set is up for live performance of the year. The group’s tour with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and the Rising Star Fife & Drum Band is up for tour of the year.
Umphrey’s McGee’s “Anchor Drops (Sci Fidelity) is up for studio album of the year, while its “In the Kitchen” is nominated for song of the year. The band’s 2004 Bonnaroo set with moe. earned a nod for live performance of the year.
Beyond hosting, Lesh will also vie for download of the year and live performance of the year for Phil Lesh and Friends’ Dec. 19, 2004, set at San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre. His former Grateful Dead colleague Jerry Garcia also earned two nods in the best archival live album category for solo band releases from 1980 and 1987.
Last year’s Jammys were hosted by Robert Randolph and boasted a reunion performance by the Black Crowes’ Chris and Rich Robinson, plus performances by Solomon Burke, Steve Winwood and String Cheese Incident.
