R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, singer/songwriter Jill Sobule and Boots Riley of rap act the Coup will join select dates on the Tell Us the Truth tour, which kicks off Nov. 7 in Madison, Wis. As previously reported, the trek will also feature performances by Steve Earle, Billy Bragg, Lester Chambers and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello (performing as the Nightwatchman).
Mills will be on board from Nov. 10 in Chicago through Nov. 16 in Atlanta, while Sobule will play at the last four shows. Riley will be on the bill from the opening show through Nov. 14 in Nashville. All of the artists at a given show will play a solo acoustic set in addition to collaborating with one another. Actress Janeane Garofalo will host the final four dates.
The tour is pushing for greater honesty and accountability from the mass media in their coverage of fair trade and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as the disputed 2000 presidential election.
