As well as being on her Bangerz tour, Miley Cyrus is on a tour through the history of rock music. After covering the Beatles’ “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” with the Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne on the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, Cyrus covered the Smiths’ “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” during her Belfast show on Monday night (May 19).
Cyrus’ smoky voice carefully tiptoes through the song from the 1986 classic “The Queen Is Dead” while the pop star holds out a smartphone, presumably to capture the spectacle, and perhaps to send the video to Morrissey after the fact. Imagine if Moz was actually on Twitter! What ghastly reaction would the Pope of Mope have to Cyrus’ rendition?
