Miley Cyrus retracted her tongue and bubbly persona for Marc Jacobs new spring/summer 2014 campaign. While we’ve become quite accustomed to seeing Miley twerking on teddy bears and wearing unitards that are three sizes too small, we actually love the toned down look she rocks in the melancholy ad.
Shipwrecked on an ominous beach, the “Wrecking Ball” singer looks defeated as she stares into the distance wearing a navy militia jacket, burgundy shorts, and embroidered booties.
Perhaps the sad face exists because Jacobs’ longtime photographer, Juergen Teller refused to shoot the ad starring the singer. “I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist,” he told WWD. “He just didn’t want to shoot her.”
However, Marc went with his gut and chose Miley over Juergen, opting instead for David Sim to shoot the campaign. “We all just love her and her entire being, her energy, her talent, her intelligence, everything,” Jacobs said. “There’s nothing I don’t like about her. She is just genuine and very natural.”
The love is mutual as Miley’s been a big fan of the designer for some time now. She’s been a front row dweller at his past fashion shows and famously worked his sheer mesh gown back at the 2013 Met Gala.
Look for Miley’s pouty face in the February issue of fashion mags.
