The latest version of Miley Cyrus just bein’ Miley is speaking out against injustice — in this case, Indiana’s so-called “religious freedom” law, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which has drawn widespread ire both on social media and in the real world since being introduced.
The law seemingly would allow business owners in Indiana to discriminate against LGBTQ customers. In a press conference Tuesday morning, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence — who signed the bill into law — encouraged lawmakers “to move legislation this week that makes it clear that this law does not give businesses the right to discriminate against anyone,” according to the The New York Times, but that latest development hasn’t satisfied many.
Wilco Cancels Indiana Show Due to Religious Freedom Restoration Act
“In honor of #transdayofvisibility say #fuckdatshit to Indianas #RFRA It is unevolved & unjust!” Cyrus wrote on her Instagram, alongisde a photo of a news article explaining that defenders of the bill haven’t been shy about their end goal of allowing business owners to refuse to serve gay customers. “You may hear that this bill isn’t what the big bad liberals are making it out to be! That this isn’t a discriminatory act it is just to protect the “consciousness” of Christians! To judge anyone for how they want to express themselves or their love to another human is WRONG no matter how these fuckers sugar coat it! THE BIBLE SAYS (if that’s what we are realllllly basing a 2015 bill on) “the way that you judge others will be the way that you will be judged” Which I hope is just as harshly and unfair as those apart of Indiana’s LGBT community! The fight for freedom isn’t over! I won’t give up!”
On Twitter, she also supported Wilco‘s recent announcement that they were canceling their May 7 show in Indiana.
@Wilco thank yiew 4 being bad a$$! We wont be conned into believing Indianas RFRA is anything else than exactly what it is-DISCRIMINATION!
