“Shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true,” writes Shinoda, who co-founded the band and recruited Bennington to join. “An official statement will come out as soon as we have one.”
TMZ first reported that Bennington had committed suicide at his Palos Verdes residence at age 41. The singer’s death was confirmed to the Associated Press by the L.A. County coroner shortly after.

Shinoda founded the group in 1996 with high school friends Rob Bourdon and Brad Delson. Bennington was recruited as vocalist later on, and Linkin Park released its acclaimed debut, Hybrid Theory, in 2000. Earlier this year, the band’s seventh studio album One More Light topped the Billboard 200.
