EMI Music’s Jazz & Classics president/CEO Bruce Lundvall is to be honored with the Midem 2005 personality of the year award.
The veteran industry executive, who oversees EMI’s jazz imprint Blue Note, classical line Angel and boutique pop label Manhattan in the United States, will receive the accolade during a gala at the Midem trade fair in Cannes on Jan. 24, 2005.
Lundvall has been a major figure in the recording business over the past four decades. During his career-to-date, he has signed a string of hitmakers including Anita Baker, Natalie Cole, Norah Jones, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Herbie Hancock, Wyton Marsalis, Willie Nelson and James Taylor.
He has also served as chairman of the Recording Industry Assn. of America (RIAA), chairman of the Country Music Assn. (CMA) and as a board member of the Recording Academy (NARAS).
The prestigious award was inaugurated in 1989 to pay homage to outstanding careers and contributions to the international music industry. MTV Networks International president/chairman MTV Networks Europe William H. Roedy received the accolade in 2003, the most recent occasion it was awarded.
