The international music industry trade show Midem will celebrate its 50th anniversary next summer, marking the occasion with the launch of new awards and tools to better assist its participants.
The 2016 Midem will take place in Cannes, France, on June 3-6, with an emphasis on U.S. and European copyright reform throughout the conferences. The business-to-business event will also include the brand new International Midem Awards and a new personalized recommendation system to help participants set up meetings with one another.
Midem’s 2016 edition had been originally scheduled for June 28-July 1 and then was bumped up to June 7-10 before settling on the new dates.
“This new, personalised recommendation service is designed to ensure that Midem participants reap the maximum benefits from attending the event,” Je?ro?me Delhaye, director of the entertainment division at Reed MIDEM, organizer of Midem, said in a statement. “The Midem music community expects to discuss deals and develop business. In order to help delegates, Midem will identify and recommend potential meeting partners for companies to contact in order to set up face-to-face discussions.”
Delhaye recently took over at Midem from previous director Bruno Crolot, who announced his departure from that position in late July.
The International Midem Awards will honor music executives from around the world for the first time and will become a new regular feature of future Midems. As well, the Midemlab and Midem Artist Accelerator competitions will continue as showcases for new acts and innovative thought, with their winners also to be honored at the International Midem Awards.
“Midem 2016 will focus on the core elements that have made the event important to the music industry for the past 50 years and beyond — its unique international reach, its business opportunities, its ability to bring together the established industry companies with the game — changing newcomers and the platform it offers for great talent,” added Delhaye. “And we will have the chance to celebrate 50 years of serving an outstanding community that is dedicated to music.”
