Michelle Branch is back and it sounds beautiful. The singer/songwriter is tapping into her rock side on “Hopeless Romantic,” premiering exclusively on Billboard today (Feb. 2).
The track kicks off with powerful lyrics as Branch sings “’Cause I’m a hopeless romantic/ When I should run for my life/ You got me on my knees/ You got me crawlin’.” From there, her smooth vocals perfectly complement the mid-tempo, laid-back drums and guitar throughout the song.
“Hopeless Romantic” is the title track off Branch’s upcoming album due out April 7 which she produced with her now-partner Patrick Carney of the Black Keys. Her last release was the EP Everything Comes and Goes, which dropped in 2010.
In a press release, Branch says the new album is filled with stories about relationships. “I love hearing human stories about people interacting with each other, and the title perfectly sums up the record. A lot of these songs are about heartbreak, but knowing that it doesn’t mean the end of the world, it just means letting go and moving on and knowing that you’re going to find something better, as hard as that is.” She also notes that this will be her first truly autobiographical record.
