As part of the Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald won GRAMMYs for record of the year for 1978’s “What A Fool Believes” and best pop vocal performance by a duo, group or chorus for 1978’s “Minute By Minute.”
MICHAEL McDONALD: “My grandmother was in the audience. I was thinking how she’d bought me my first guitar, a Silvertone from Sears. It was a big deal that she lived long enough to see me do well by industry standards. I was fortunate, being the new guy writing songs — but the Doobie Brothers had paid their dues.”
