Michael J. Fox, who starred as Marty McFly in the “Back to The Future” series in the ’80s, can still rock a high school dance… or a star-studded charity benefit. In a performance that channeled 1958 via 1985, the actor flashed his guitar skills on Chuck Berry’s “Johnny B. Goode” a la the “Back To The Future” finale at his annual Parkinson’s disease benefit. The occasion for the performance, which would have made Doc Brown proud, was Fox’s annual “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson’s” charity benefit in New York City on Saturday (Nov. 12). Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991, was also joined onstage by Joan Jett, while Kid Cudi also performed.
To add to the nostalgic glory of the recreated scene, Fox’s guitar was an exact replica of the red ’50s model used in the film. (Watch the original below.)
Although Fox didn’t actually play guitar in the movie, he learned the part shortly thereafter according to The Daily Mail. At 2008’s “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson’s” fundraiser, Fox joined The Who onstage to perform “Magic Bus.”
