In the first major regional reshuffle since Live Nation acquired Michael Coppel Presents five years ago, Roger Field steps up from COO to CEO of Live Nation Australasia while Michael Coppel becomes chairman of the concert promoter’s activities Down Under.
Coppel, the founding president and CEO of Live Nation Australasia, will continue to tap his industry relationships, mentor the team and pursue opportunities to grow the company, according to a statement issued Wednesday (March 15).
The veteran promoter sold his Melbourne-based MCP to Live Nation in early 2012. The prior year, MCP had won the top independent promoter (internationally) at the Billboard Touring Awards in New York, ranking seventh on Billboard’s top 25 highest-grossing promoters in 2011. In the years since the big deal, LN has flexed its muscles in the region with a slew of purchases and partnerships, and a stream of massive tours including jaunts for Pink, Coldplay and Adele’s current stadiums juggernaut.
With Coppel rising to chairman, Field will be responsible for the day-to-day management of Live Nation’s concerts activities in Australia and New Zealand. Field served as vice president of promotions when Live Nation acquired the 30-year-old MCP.
“Michael and Roger have done an amazing job of transforming our business in Australia and New Zealand over the last five years,” comments Alan Ridgeway, president Live Nation International & emerging markets division, in a statement announcing the two promotions. “I am delighted that they are going to be continuing to work together in their new roles and am sure they will take the company to new heights.”
Since taking the helm at LN, Coppel has pulled the trigger on a raft of game-changing deals from the acquisition of Auckland’s Vector Arena, winning the bid for the management of Melbourne’s Palais Theatre and acquiring Paul Piticco and Jess Ducrou’s Secret Sounds business.
“We have built a great team over the last five years,” notes Coppel, “and I am excited to be able to continue to work with them to deliver unforgettable live experiences to music fans across Australia and New Zealand.”
