MGMT has returned with “Alien Days,” a new song which sounds, quite literally, out of this world.
A dreamy, five-minute-long trip into psychedelia, “Alien Days” was initially released last Saturday as a limited-edition cassette single for the Record Store Day campaign. The group are now presenting the track to the world as a free stream.
“Alien Days” is the first taste of the band’s forthcoming third album, the follow-up to 2010’s “Congratulations,” an effort that polarized fans who had jumped on board following the explosive breakthrough that was 2007’s “Oracular Spectacular.”
A release date on the new set has yet to be confirmed, though several reports have pinned the album — reportedly self-titled — to the month of June. The alternative rock group, founded by Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden, will take their show on the road for a spring tour, beginning April 26 at Penn State. MGMT have performed “Alien Days” during recent live shows.
