A suspect has been arrested in the death of Jose Arredondo, a California businessman and father of K-pop star Samuel.
Arredondo was found dead in his condo in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico, with signs of blunt force trauma on July 17. According to The Associated Press, the Baja California Sur state’s attorney general’s office said Tuesday it had identified a 50-year-old man as the suspect of killing Arredondo.
While it’s not clear when the arrest occurred, various reports say it happened anytime between Friday and Monday.
A statement sent to media on behalf of Arredondo’s family confirmed that the suspect was an acquaintance of the deceased and warned against media reports with inacurate information.
Arredondo was the father of 17-year-old Samuel Kim, sometimes known as Samuel Kim Arredondo. The solo K-pop star, who operates under the mononym “Samuel,” is currently living in the U.S. and most recently released his single “One” in 2018 and then again in the Japanese market earlier this year.
On Tuesday, Samuel shared, and later deleted, a post on Instagram through which he commemorated his father’s death and wished him happy birthday following a funeral service. Arredondo died days before what would have been his 61st birthday. Samuel currently has a picture of himself as a baby with his father as his profile picture on that account.
