Currently on tour in Europe, Metallica is already looking ahead to dates next year on the continent. The group has confirmed nine dates, beginning May 26 in Copenhagen and including a June 4 headlining appearance at the Rock in Rio festival in Lisbon. A new round of North American dates is expected next spring or summer.
Before the year is out, Metallica has 11 more European shows on tap through a Dec. 19-20 stand in London. A New Year’s Eve show is set for the Joint in Las Vegas, followed by the group’s previously announced January stint on the Big Day Out tour of Australia and New Zealand.
On Jan. 12, U.K. fans will get a seven-track EP for new single “The Unnamed Feeling,” featuring six songs recorded live in Paris and video for the title cut. Alternate configurations of the single will be available in other international territories.
In other news, the Metallica documentary “Some Kind of Monster” will debut at the Sundance Film Festival, to be held Jan. 15-25 in Park City, Utah. Filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky have said they gained “unprecedented access to [band members’] private worlds,” and “nothing has been off-limits.” The documentary will enjoy a wider release later in the year.
