Metallica’s tour of Australia has sold-out in brisk fashion.
Tickets to the American metal veterans’ 13-date Australian arena visit went on general sale at 9am this morning. A little more than an hour later, more than 215,000 tickets had been snapped up.
The trek is now the fastest-selling and most successful arena tour of the year, according to tour promoter Michael Coppel Presents, which also helmed Pink’s blockbuster 58-date run of Australia last year
Both of Metallica’s New Zealand concerts – on Oct. 13 and 14 in Auckland – sold out this morning in just 20 minutes.
The Australian leg of Metallica’s World Magnetic Tour kicks off Oct. 16 with three dates at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre before traveling to Perth, Sydney, Adelaide and wrapping in Melbourne.
Those dates mark the culmination of Metallica’s world tour – which began in October 2008 – and will be band’s first shows on these shores since January 2004.
