Fresh off of being told Billboard.com that the new album is “very, very, very organic — upright basses, cocktail (drum) kits, lots of acoustic guitars, really very atmospheric, absolutely one of the coolest sounding records that I’ve ever heard, of ours or anybody else’s.”
In related news, the Mellencamp/Stephen King musical “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County,” details of which were first revealed by Billboard in 2000, will finally open in April 2009 at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre. Mellencamp wrote the score, while King wrote the script.
