Although there is no confirmed release date, John Mellencamp confirms a career-spanning boxed set will see the light of day in the foreseeable future.
“I just know that I have to do that and one of the guys in my band is organizing the material,” the artist tells Billboard.com. “And there’s so much material going back over 25 years — unreleased material or different versions. So he’s looking at all that and he’s [spent] six or seven months on that already.”
Mellencamp adds that his long-in-the-works musical project with famed horror writer Stephen King is still on the horizon and will hopefully be finished by the end of the year.
The artist’s new retrospective collection, “Words & Music: John Mellencamp’s Greatest Hits” (Island/UTV), debuted last week at No. 13 on The Billboard 200. He will perform Nov. 11 on A&E’s “Live by Request,” which will be staged at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in his home base of Bloomington, Ind.
