The best mobile music apps of the year were named at Billboard’s Mobile Entertainment Live: The Music App Summit, which took place Oct. 5 in San Francisco.
The winners were SoundHound Infinity by SoundHound Inc (Best Music Engagement App), MorphWiz by Wizdom Music (Best Music Creation App), MOG Mobile by MOG (Best Music Streaming App), Live Phish by Nugs.net (Best Touring App), I Am T-Pain by Smule (Best Artist-based App) and Gibson Learn & Master Guitar by Gibson Guitar (Best Branded App).
“This is the first time a mobile entertainment event was dedicated solely to the issue of mobile music applications, and the first app awards program that singled out music apps in such a dedicated way,” said Antony Bruno, Billboard’s executive director of digital mobile content and programming, and program chair for the conference. “The number of innovative music apps out in the market today is truly astounding, and we were honored to provide a platform for them to showcase their talent to the industry at large.”
The Music App Award winners were narrowed down from three finalists in six different categories, and selected by an independent panel of judges, which included MC Hammer; Eliot van Buskirk, staff writer at Wired; Ralph Simon, CEO, of Mobilium Advisory Group; Daniel Klaus, founder of AppFund; Ian Rogers, CEO of Topspin; and Patrick Mork, VP of marketing at GetJar.
Representatives from all finalists attended the event and presented demos of their app both on stage and in the conference’s exhibit area.
