Meghan Trainor has been diagnosed with a hemorrhage on her vocal cords and she won’t be playing any shows for the foreseeable future.
The “All About That Bass” singer shared the news from her social media pages, where she explained that she’d been ordered to take “complete vocal rest” until her throat had healed. The injury, which is relatively common among singers, means her ??MTrainTour? tour has ground to a halt. At this stage, she has postponed the first two shows on her trek — a July 3 date at the Borgata in Atlantic City, NJ and the following night at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT. It’s a situation that particularly bothers her: “I have never missed a tour date before so this is killing me.”
If other, similar injuries are anything to go by, Trainor won’t be ready for performance duty for some time yet. Another rising star, Sam Smith, had to immediately stop work in April due to a hemorrhage on his vocal cords. In early July he announced he could speak again, and a new touring schedule was announced from late November. Trainor’s new tour is slated to roll into dozens of towns through early September.
A clearly upset Trainor posted footage, noting she’s seeing another doctor, “I want to cry but I can’t cuz it will hurt more,” she wrote. “I hate everything right now.”
The pop singer collected nine nominations for this year’s Billboard Music Awards, taking out prizes for top hot 100 song and top digital song for “All About that Bass.” The chart topping song also earned a pair of Grammy nominations.
Trainor’s full message reads, “I don’t want anyone worrying but I have had a hemorrhage on my vocal chords. Right now the doctors want me on complete vocal rest until they are healed so I have to postpone my first two shows in Atlantic City and Connecticut. I promise that I will make it up to my Megatronz. I have never missed a tour date before so this is killing me. I love you all very much and want to get healed quickly so I can show you this amazing tour we’ve been working on. I am truly sorry to everyone who has bought tickets and made travel plans. I hate this.”
