Meek Mill’s five-year-old song “Dreams and Nightmares” — which was adopted as a de facto anthem by the Philadelphia Eagles for the team’s Super Bowl LII championship aspirations — soared to 1.47 million U.S. on-demand audio and video streams on Monday, Feb. 5, the day after the big game, according to Nielsen Music. The Eagles celebrated their first Super Bowl win on Sunday.
On Feb. 5, the track collected 1.47 million on-demand streams (audio and video combined) – which was an increase of 71 percent compared to its 854,000 on-demand streams on the day of the Super Bowl. That latter number was an 88 percent boost compared to its Saturday tally, when it claimed 454,000 on-demand streams.
To put “Dreams’” single-day 1.47 million number in perspective, notable past hit songs like Zayn’s “Pillowtalk,” Adele’s “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” and Alicia Keys’ “No One” each earned around the same number of streams in the week ending Feb. 1.
“Dreams” initially became intertwined with the Eagles’ Super Bowl hopes when the team played the song following its win in the NFC Championship Game over the Minnesota Vikings on Jan. 21. Then, after using “Dreams” — by then an unofficial team theme song – as their walk-out music for the Super Bowl, players again blared “Dreams” in the locker room after defeating the New England Patriots, as captured on post-game video footage.
“Dreams and Nightmares” is the title track from Meek Mill’s 2012 album of the same name, which debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart.
