The U.K.’s MCPS-PRS Alliance has become the first collecting society outside the U.S. to strike a license deal with YouTube.
The U.K. agreement, unveiled today, applies to more than 10 million works available through YouTube, including music videos, ensuring that the Alliance’s members receive royalties for their work.
“We’re pleased to be working in cooperation with the MCPS-PRS Alliance to provide the YouTube community in the UK with the best possible user experience,” Chad Hurley, CEO and co-founder of YouTube said in a statement. “This agreement is another great example of how we are working with the music industry to explore new and creative ways to compensate music creators.”
Steve Porter, chief executive of the Alliance added, “We are delighted to have concluded this deal with YouTube and to be the first collecting society outside the U.S. to do so.”
London-based MCPS and PRS work together to secure royalties on behalf of its 50,000 songwriter, composer and music publisher members.
