“Bloom,” a second set of Sarah McLachlan songs re-imagined by an all-star cast of remixers, is due Sept. 6 via Arista. The 10-track album incorporates features contributions from the Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am, Junkie XL, Thievery Corporation, Sly & Robbie and Faithless’ Rollo, among others.
All but one track stems from McLachlan albums, while “Just Like Me,” a collaboration with former Run-D.M.C. principal Darryl McDaniels (aka DMC), is slated for inclusion on his long-awaited, still-unreleased solo album, “Checks, Thugs, Rock-n-Roll.” The version on “Bloom” was remixed by will.i.am.
The oldest song included here, “Vox” as remixed by Tom Middleton, originally appeared on McLachlan’s debut album, 1989’s “Touch.” Conversely, six tracks stem from her most recent studio set, 2003’s “Afterglow”: “Fallen” (Gabriel & Dresden), “Stupid” (DJ Hyper), “World on Fire” (Junkie XL), “Dirty Little Secret” (Thievery Corporation), “Train Wreck” (Sly & Robbie) and “Answer” (Talvin Singh).
McLachlan’s previous remix album, 2003’s “Sarah McLachlan Remixed,” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Electronic Albums chart.
McLachlan recently wrapped an international tour and performed as part of the Philadelphia edition of Live 8. During the North American portion of the run, opening act the Perishers frequently welcomed McLachlan onstage to sing their song “Pills.” A duet recording of the track — the original of which appears on the band’s sophomore album, “Let There Be Morning” (Nettwerk) — is available for free download from the Perishers’ official Web site.
