On the heels of news that the Rolling Stones will play a part in “NFL Opening Kickoff 2005” comes word that Tim McGraw will be involved with ABC’s “Monday Night Football” broadcasts of National Football League games. The country superstar and his band are recording a new version of the song “I Like It, I Love It” for use during the weekly primetime game’s halftime highlights segment.
Each week, the lyrics will be rewritten to fit with the highlights. NFL Films will supply previously unseen clips for the segment.
“I Like It I Love It” stems from McGraw’s 1995 Curb album “All I Want.” The cut reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart and No. 25 on the Hot 100.
As previously reported, footage from the Stones Aug. 31 concert in Detroit will air as part of the Sept. 8 “NFL Opening Kickoff 2005” broadcast on ABC. Additionally, the network will utilize music from the band’s forthcoming Virgin album, “A Bigger Bang,” and past favorites throughout the season in “MNF” promotional spots and highlight segments.
The hour-long “Opening Kickoff” special is part of the NFL’s “Road to Forty” football and music campaign that will lead up to Super Bowl XL, set for Feb. 5 in Detroit.
