Throughout quarantine, Shawn Mendes has been doing some reading and is often spotted sitting on a chair outside enjoying a book. A recent paparazzi shot caught the superstar delving into Matthew McConaughey’s new memoir Greenlights.
While chatting with Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday (Nov. 3), the actor shared that he saw the photo and that Mendes is a “good young man.”
“He reached out a while back and he and I have taken contact and will continue to,” he added. McConaughey, who has three children ages 12, 10 and seven, couldn’t help but tell them about his new friendship. “I know my kids have seen him and know his music and etcetera,” he explained. “My kids are like, ‘You got his number? You got his number?’ ‘Yeah, yeah!’ And I’m like, ‘Do you want to call him?’ And they’re like, ‘No, no, no, no. I got to think about what I’m going to say.’”
On Greenlights, McConaughey shared that it’s the “most precious piece of art I ever put out.”
“If it’s a film, I wrote, directed, produced this. I’m the main character in it, I wrote the script and it’s the story of my last 50 years,” he continued. “It’s not somebody else’s script, it’s not being directed by someone else, it’s not lensed by someone else. It’s not even being totally edited by someone else. So, it’s the most permanent true extension of myself, for sure.”
