Rapper/producer Master P figures the best way to keep an eye on his 13-year-old son, rapper/actor Lil’ Romeo, is to be his co-star. They’re part of a musical family in “Romeo!,” a comedy series debuting Sept. 13 on Nickelodeon. “Saturday Night Live” alum Victoria Jackson plays the family’s nanny.
“It’s just a lot of fun to be working with my dad and it’s just a great thing because usually when you have child actors, they’re far away from their parents,” said Lil’ Romeo. “The show will be a good thing for me because it’ll, like, break me out to different things, like bigger roles in movies.”
Master P said he’s not above a little one-upmanship with his son.
“We’re always competing against each other now,” the 33-year-old said. “On the set, I beat him a lot in basketball. Romeo is so great now as an actor and I’m like, ‘I’ve got to step my game up.’ It’s a lot of love that is happening.”
As previously reported, the father-and-son duo will star in the feature film “Uncle P.”
Master P, whose real name is Percy Miller, is the founder of the No Limit Records label. Because he has an established career, he said he isn’t exploiting Romeo, who is one of his six children.
“I’m already successful. Romeo still has a chance to be a child and I’m not depending on what he makes off a television show or record,” he said. Copyright 2003 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
