50 Cent’s “The Massacre” (Interscope) storms in at No. 1 on European Top 100 Albums, after a banner first week that includes chart-topping debuts in the United Kingdom, Germany and Ireland. The album also opens at No. 2 in Holland, Austria and Switzerland; No. 3 in Norway; and climbs 139-3 in France.
“Massacre” dethrones Jennifer Lopez’s “Rebirth” (Epic), which drops to No. 2 in its second week on Top 100 Albums. Her best showing is in Hungary, where the album holds at No. 3. However, Lopez spends a fourth week atop Eurochart Hot 100 Singles with lead track “Get Right,” which holds at No. 2 in Ireland; No. 3 in France, Switzerland and Hungary; and climbs 7-5 in Denmark.
U2’s “How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb” (Universal Island) rises 7-4 in its 16th week on Top 100 Albums, fuelled by climbs of 6-4 in the Netherlands and 12-9 in Portugal.
Moving 16-10 is the double live CD “Le Train des Enfoires” (Resto Do Coeur) by the all-star collective Les Enfoires. The album holds at No. 1 in France and debuts at the top in Switzerland.
New at No. 11 on Top 100 Albums is “Employment” (B Unique) by Leeds, England-based modern rock outfit Kaiser Chiefs. The album — which bows at No. 3 in Britain — contains the band’s recent U.K. top-10 single “Oh My God” and last fall’s top-30 entry “I Predict a Riot.” Kaiser Chiefs play a highly touted gig tonight (March 17) at South By Southwest in Austin. Universal released the album in the United States on Tuesday.
Next to arrive on Top 100 Albums is Kettcar’s “Von Spatzen und Tauben Dachern und Handen” (Sony BMG/Grand Hote), at No. 24. That’s after a No. 5 start in Germany. The punk-influenced five-piece, which released its first album in 2002, continues its German tour tomorrow in Goeetingen.
New on the Eurochart at No. 2 is a double-sided charity single by British boy band McFly, with new song “All About You” and a cover of Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend.” The Universal Island release, which raises money for the Comic Relief charity in the United Kingdom, is McFly’s third No. 1 single there.
Ilona Mitrecey’s “Un Monde Parfait” (Scorpio) climbs 9-4 in its second Eurochart week after rising 2-1 in France. Also, German star Sarah Connor arrives at No. 7 with “From Hero to Zero” (Sony BMG), featured in the soundtrack of the animated movie “Robots.”
