Mary J. Blige’s father is in critical condition at a Michigan hospital after being stabbed this week during a quarrel with his ex-girlfriend. Police say 63-year-old Thomas Blige was attacked early Thursday morning at his apartment in Battle Creek.
Blige’s roommate, Michael Thomas, told WWMT he found the victim bleeding in the kitchen with multiple stab wounds. “He was in really bad shape,” Thomas said. “I helped him cover the wounds and I hold him in my arms.”
He was taken to Kalamazoo’s Bronson Methodist Hospital where police say he is in critical condition.
Police say the incident happened around 7 a.m. after Blige confronted his ex, who has not been named, deflating the tires on his SUV. Officers recovered the knife and found the ex-girlfriend with blood on her clothes.
The accused attacker is being held at Calhoun County Jail on an attempted murder charge. She is expected to be arraigned in court on Friday. Police say the former couple has a history of domestic violence.
