Anthony Martin has joined the staff of the fledgling Nashville label Montage Music Group as head of A&R. He previously was a longtime A&R executive at Sony Music.
Martin launched his music career as a road musician and background vocalist, touring with artists Nicolette Larson, the Girls Next Door and Judy Rodman in the 1980s.
In 1988, he joined publishing company Jimmy Darrel Music as a song plugger, moving to Mel Tillis Music in a similar capacity a year later. In 1990, he began working with producers Paul Worley and Ed Seay, handling production assistance and engineering duties. He joined Sony in 1997 as A&R manager, and left to start his own production company in 2004.
Among the artists Martin has worked with are Montgomery Gentry, Martina McBride, Pam Tillis, Patty Loveless, Charlie Robison, Collin Raye, Travis Tritt and Shania Twain.
Montage is owned by attorney and entrepreneur John Simmons, CEO of Hedgewood International and founder of the law firm Simmons Cooper. Hedgewood will serve as the parent company of Montage Music.
The company has unveiled plans to be a multi-genre record label as well as a publishing and management company.
