Where does love go when it’s not around here? Maybe it’s lost somewhere in the deserts of southern California? Actress and singer Olivia Holt is on the hunt in the video for “16 Steps,” her collaboration with Danish DJ and producer Martin Jensen.
You may remember the young musician from his breakout hit “Solo Dance,” which peaked at No. 17 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart in April. This hook-ridden follow-up has a lot more urban edge thanks to a snappy beat and trap-influence, but this sugary melody and lovelorn message is pure summer pop.
The video, directed by Michael Sauer Christensen, features Holt in a vintage Mercedes on a soul-searching mission and Jensen as a cop in hot pursuit. Holt’s only crime seems to be catching feelings for someone who has no intention of returning that glow. It’s as if Jensen’s knowledge that love will not be returned is haunting her. Also, there’s a beach party, because summer.
It’s a very high fashion mood for a cool tune. The song is out now, and the “16 Steps” video will officially be released on Wednesday (July 18), but you can enjoy it in full below, exclusively on Billboard Dance.
