It’s been a while since Marshmello gave the world a candy-coated instrumental. He’s been saving up his monster juice, but dubstep-lovin’ buddy Svdden Death brought out his dark side on their new collaboration “Crusade.”
If you’re looking for a gut-punch of bass booms, this isn’t quite that. It’s laced with all the characterstically quirky sounds Marshmello fans know and love. It does, however, stomp through your speakers like a metal-clad warrior. It’s a fresh sound for the low-end, which Svdden Death says was the whole vibe of their time in the studio.
“It’s actually one of my favorite projects I’ve been apart of, trying to bring as much diversity into a heavy bass song as possible,” he tells Billboard Dance. “Collabing with Marshmello is perfect, because we are super good at filling in the blanks for each other. Much love to my dude, and hope y’all dig the tune.”
“Danny is a legend,” Marshmello says of his collaborator. “This song is so dope, because it shows both sides of who we are as producers.”
“Crusade” stands as Marshmello’s first original release of 2020, following a remix package for his Blackbear and Yung Blood collab “Tongue Tied.” It’s Svdden Death’s first 2020 tune, too, following the bloody blitzkrieg of 2019’s “Modern Sorcery.”
“Crusade” is out now on Marshmello’s Joytime Collective. Listen to it below.
