It’s no secret that Marshmello’s rise in the dance music scene and beyond has been meteoric over the past two years. The Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y. proved to be an excellent setting for the budding star to unleash his sugary records and eye-popping visuals on Sunday night (Aug. 20).
Right out of the gate, he dropped Kayzo’s rail-riding heater “Whistle Wars” which ran alongside a stream of pyro shooting out of the front of the stage. As per usual, Marshmello was decked out in all-white, the only pops of color glowing from his hi-tech helmet.
Mellogang members could be spotted throughout the theater, some wearing Marshmello regalia complete with their own DIY helmet. The Hot 100 crowd roared in unison to songs of his including “Twinbow” (a collaboration with Slushii), “Summer” and “Alone” which is nearing the 100 million stream mark on Spotify.
While the scene in front of Mello was an impressive sight, the vibrant visuals behind him were truly a show of their own. The hypnotic loops incorporated everything sweet from a steel grey Marshmello character walking to the beat to his helmet being cracked open to a steampunk configuration of gears.
Other notable performance highlights include Mello dropping his buoyant remix of Adele’s “Hello” and his brand new single, “Silence”, featuring Khalid.
