We all know Marshmello has a soft spot for pop punk, and there’s something a little noughties about his new pop ballad “Here With Me” featuring indie pop band CHVRCHES. It opens with introspective guitar lines as singer Lauren Mayberry laments a growing love sickness. The song builds with a radio-ready bounce to its catchy chorus and melodic hook.
It’s not the kind of song that explodes into a million tiny fireworks. It’s always a little somber, but it’s got a candy-colored brightness that’s become Marshmello’s signature. It’s perfect for teenage love affairs, which works perfectly for all those kids who just discovered Marshmello after his big Fortnite concert.
“Here With Me” is out now on Republic Records.
