This Sunday (Feb. 3), Maroon 5 will be playing the halftime show during Super Bowl LIII, as they bring some of their biggest hit songs to Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. To prepare viewers who might want to sing along with Adam Levine and co. on game night, Billboard’s Jake Cornell ventured to NYC’s Times Square to test people on their Maroon 5 lyrics.
The first song Cornell tackles is “Moves Like Jagger,” as he asks participants to complete several lines from the song, including the classic chorus lyric, “I’ve got the moves like Jagger/ I’ve got the,” which ends with Levine’s falsetto “mooooooves like Jagger.” Nearly everyone gets that line correct (although they sound slightly more like ghost cows mooing than they do the Maroon 5 frontman.)
The results are a bit more disappointing when Cornell asks people who Mick Jagger is, though, as a few of them hesitantly reply that he is just “a dancer,” and one guy guesses that Mick Jagger is (somehow) Michael Jackson.
When it comes to “Girls Like You,” contestants are quizzed on both Levine’s lyrics and Cardi B’s, which are both met with relatively accurate responses, while “Sugar” leads to some mixed results, including a ballet performance and one player who thinks that Levine is asking for “love and a symphony” instead of “love” and “a little sympathy.”
