Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray recently revealed in an interview that he’s going deaf following years of touring.
“It’s years and years of being on the road and being two feet behind cymbals and drums,” McGrath told Daily Mail TV , noting that he ignored advice to wear ear protection on-stage. “So high frequencies – I can’t hear anymore.” Despite the unfortunate news, McGrath still has tour dates running throughout 2019.
“Fortunately for the new generation, they have in ears,” he continued. “I’m dumb enough not to use them though. I still need the sight sounds and smells of a concert and that includes the auditory part, but unfortunately, mine’s going.”
Sugar Ray rose to fame in the 90s for their beachy, fun hits including “Someday,” “Every Morning,” and “Fly.” Watch the full interview with McGrath below.
