Pop band Marianas Trench has emerged with seven nominations for the 2012 MuchMusic Video Awards, topping other nominees such as Drake, Justin Bieber, Nickelback and Simple Plan. The annual awards will be broadcast live June 17 at MuchMusic, housed inside the Bell Media building in downtown Toronto. Fuse will air the awards in the U.S.

The MMVAS are always a seemingly chaotic party. The adjacent streets are closed down to accommodate the thousands of people that flock to the Queen and John intersection to witness the red carpet arrivals and performances on the outdoor stage in the parking lot.

Katy Perry has already been confirmed as one of the performers, in addition to LMFAO. The latter will also act as co-hosts with various VJs and Bell Media entertainment reporters. More performers, as well as the presenters, will be announced shortly.
The MMVA categories are mainly for Canadian acts, 11 in all, such as Video of the Year, Cinematography of the Year, Director of the Year, Pop Video of the Year and International Video of the Year by a Canadian. Plus, there are another three categories for non-Canadian international acts — International Video of the Year (Artist), International Video of the Year (Group), UR Fave International Artist or Group.
On the homegrown front, Drake and pop-rock band Hedley each received five nominations; funky ensemble Down With Webster and recent Schoolboy Records signing Carly Rae Jepsen four apiece; and City and Colour, Danny Fernandes, Bieber and Simple Plan all received two.

Considering there were just three categories for non-Canadians, LMFAO, Katy Perry, One Direction and Rihanna each got two.
The rest of the nominees – which include international acts David Guetta, Adele, Beyonce, The Wanted, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, and Canadians Sam Roberts Band, The Sheepdogs, Theory of a Deadman, Lights, K’naan, Arcade Fire and Avril Lavigne – are up for just one award each.
