Marian Hill members Samantha Gongol and Jeremy Lloyd caught up with Billboard as part of our “You Should Know” video series, sharing stories including how they first met, and what the first song they ever wrote together was.
The pair, who grew up together in Havertown, Pennsylvania, first got to know each other when they both performed in a production of The Music Man in eighth grade. The first track they ever wrote together as a musical duo was called “Silhouette,” Lloyd explains, adding that no one will ever hear it.
Gongol reveals that the best advice she has ever received is “to not stand in your own way” and that the most sentimental items she owns are childhood birthday cards she received from her grandparents.
Lloyd, meanwhile, divulges that when he was in elementary school, he had hopes of playing in the NBA one day. He also shares that if he could collaborate with any artist, it would be Drake.
Asked why people should listen to their music, Lloyd says that it will make people “feel good,” adding, “That’s what we try to give you, and I think we can guarantee that you’ll feel sexy and strong and good after spending some time with our music.”
