
Pop icon Mariah Carey is famous for shading other artists by pretending not to know them — a truly classic move she’s directed at fellow divas including Jennifer Lopez and Demi Lovato — but in the case of The Chainsmokers, Carey’s confusion seems a bit more genuine.
On an episode of radio show The Morning Mashup, Alex Paul and Drew Taggart recounted meeting Mariah — the diva who is, as Pall gushed, responsible for a litany of classics including “Fantasy” and “Honey.”
“And she was like, ‘Dude, I love you guys,’” Pall said on the show. “And we’re like, ‘Wow, you know who we are?’ And she’s like, ‘One Direction, right?’”
Pall and Taggart proceeded to have a good laugh over Mariah mistaking them with The British boy band, who they perhaps do bear a slight resemblance to. Carey herself got in on the joke, responding to the story with the tweet below:
