London’s Astoria venue will now stage its final show one day earlier, after the Manumission club night booked for Jan. 15 was cancelled.
Manumission organizers said they were unable to book a fitting line-up for the closing night of the well-known venue, because of the brief notice period for closure from the authorities.
To enable the major redevelopment of Tottenham Court Road station, a number of properties have been compulsorily purchased and will be demolished. The 1,000-capacity Astoria 2 venue will also close.
The 2,000-capacity Astoria has become a staple of the live music scene in central London since 1984, featuring concerts by numerous acts including the Rolling Stones, David Bowie and Madonna.
The Astoria venues are controlled by Festival Republic, which is majority-owned by Live Nation.
A closing party will now take place at the Astoria on Jan. 14. The Demolition Ball will feature indie-rock acts including Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, The Automatic and My Vitriol, as well as special guests.
A club night will be held as planned at the Astoria 2 on Jan. 15, featuring indie-rock act Cajun Dance Party.
Westminster Council says a replacement venue must be part of any new proposal when the underground building works are complete. The Crossrail development, linking Maidenhead in Berkshire to Shenfield in Essex via Heathrow airport and central London, is due for completion in 2017.
