NEW YORK — Attorney David Mantel has been named Zomba Music Publishing president for the United States. He takes the reins from Richard Blackstone, who left the company in May to become chairman/CEO of Warner/Chappell Music.
As an industry lawyer, Mantel has represented such clients as Fred Durst/Limp Bizkit, 50 Cent, Mary J. Bilge, 3 Doors Down, Stained and Def Jam Records, where he was a senior executive from 1998 to 2000. He was previously with law firms Katz Smith & Cohen; Pryor Cashman Sherman & Flynn; and Mantel & Shapiro.
Mantel, based in New York, begins his new role on Sept. 6 and will report to BMG Music Publishing Worldwide chairman/CEO Nicholas Firth.
Tim Smith remains GM, Zomba Music Publishers Ltd., the U.K. division of Zomba Music Publishing. Smith reports to Paul Curran, group MD of BMG Music Publishing Ltd., the U.K. division of BMG Music Publishing.
