Just days after releasing the new album, “Drama y Luz,” and announcing a world tour, Maná has reached the top again: the biggest opening for a Spanish-language album since Aventura’s “The Last.”
Maná opens at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums and Latin Pop Albums with just under 47,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Aventura’s “The Last” debuted at No. 1 on June 27, 2009 with a little over 47,000.
On the Billboard 200, “Drama” bows at No. 5 marking only the fifth time a Spanish-language set has debuted in the top five on the list – Shakira’s “Fijacion Oral: Vol. 1” opened at No. 4 on June 25, 2005, Maná’s “Amar Es Combatir” opened at No. 4 on Sept. 9, 2006, Aventura’s “The Last” opened at No. 5 on Sept. 6, 2009, and Ricky Martin’s “Musica + Alma + Sexo” opened at No. 3 on Feb. 19, 2011.
Maná is the only Latin act to have posted two top five albums on the Billboard 200. Their first major tour in several years launches June 16 at Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Tickets go on sale April 29 via ticketmaster.com.
